Ingram Book Group

Ingram has a strong history of collaborating with Dynix, enabling librarians to increase productivity by streamlining processes and eliminating unnecessary steps in the ordering and receiving of library materials. Together, we provide a wide variety of EDI offerings with the Dynix, Horizon and Scholar systems.

Both companies continually seek new innovations for our mutual customers, like "Enriched EDI Ordering" for fully automated, shelf-ready processing and ipage integration. More developments to come...

Horizon and Dynix Ingram EDI

Dynix and Ingram have partnered to offer the following automated interface capabilities to our mutual Horizon system customers:
  • Horizon EDI - EDIFACT order, Enriched EDIFACT, Order Response and Invoice.
  • Dynix EDI - X12 Order, Enriched X12 Order, Order Acknowledgment and Invoice
Note: Enriched EDIFACT or X12 Order
  • Users can send additional distribution information in the EDIFACT order record that provides Ingram with all the information necessary to create complete holdings records to match the items shipped. The holdings records are loaded with MARC bibliographic records and overlay the on-order items. When the materials arrive from Ingram, they are shelf-ready, and the catalog already contains the necessary records to circulate the items

ipage Custom MARC

Custom MARC is a feature available in all levels of Ingram's ipage® web-based title product that gives libraries the ability to create and map a custom MARC profile for downloading brief MARC records to Horizon or Dynix. The customer creates a list in ipage, and then add local data (like fund, location, collection code, requestor, etc.) in Horizon/Dynix supported 970 tags and subfields.

The list is downloaded as brief MARC records. Upon loading to Horizon or Dynix, an order record and a brief cataloging record are created. Custom MARC can also be used to add local data to brief MARC records to be loaded directly to the catalog as placeholder records.

VIP

Ingram is currently in development with Dynix to increase the productivity of librarians using the Horizon Information Management System by achieving industry-first integration with book vendor databases. Users will be able to send an ISBN search directly to Ingram to determine title availability and then transfer bibliographic and pricing information to an acquisitions purchase order line record. The new interface protocol is called Vendor Integration Protocol, or VIP.

Using the VIP standard established by Dynix, Ingram has configured its systems to receive ISBN searches and send return messages containing bibliographic information without operator intervention. The integration technology built into Horizon 7.3 will be available to Ingram ipage customers in the near future.
