Horizon Add-On Products

Enhance Your System with Add-on Products and Accessories from Dynix

Dynix has created the following add-on products to enhance your Horizon Information Management System. These added features will provide your staff and users with greater access to library resources and a richer library experience.

Horizon Add-on Products:
  • Horizon Closed Stack Access—allows user access to items that are not in the open stack area. Horizon Closed Stack Access contains items that are not physically accessible but can to be requested via Horizon Information Portal. Users request the item via Horizon Information Portal; their request is sent to a printer, where a page can then retrieve the item(s) for the user. The item is then delivered to the user or a pickup area to be checked out.

  • Horizon Community Resources—Community Resources allows libraries to provide their users centralized quick easy access to information pertinent to each community. Users can search News Papers, Event Calendars, Clubs and Organizations and Questions and Answers. The Community Resources module uses Community Information MARC 21 Concise Format tags to ensure data that conforms to standards.

  • Horizon Debt Collect—automatically identifies users with long-overdue materials and electronically notifies Unique Management, a Dynix strategic partner company specializing in library materials recovery, electronically. Download the Horizon Debt Product Overview.

  • Horizon eBooks Library—Horizon eBooks Library is a powerful offering that allows you exciting digital-oriented solutions for your ever increasing technology savvy users. Horizon eBooks Library provides over 40,000 titles (and growing) that you can add to your eBook collection, supports all three reader formats and offers very tight integration with Horizon, Dynix ILS and Horizon Information Portal. In addition, Horizon eBooks Library is completely self-service oriented and is offered as an ASP service. No hardware or software is required to be purchased by your library to run this solution. All you need is a browser.

  • Horizon Home Service—Home Services provides unique access to users who aren't able to come into the library. It allows the library to create a profile for each user listing the types of items that user would like to checkout. After reading the book, the user can rate how they liked each item. Users can determine the frequency of visits. Special notes can be attached to each user making sure that they get the items they want in a timerly manner.

  • Horizon Link Resolver—Dynix announced Horizon Link Resolver through a partnership with Serials Solutions. Horizon Link Resolver will easily allow library users to connect to full text articles in e-journals, aggregated full text databases, and secondary databases through to bibliographic record indexes. Horizon Link Resolver is fully integrated with Horizon Information Portal 3.0, and also works with Horizon Consolidated Searching, Horizon 7.3.2 (or Dynix ILS 191) and URSA 3.0. The goal of the Horizon Link Resolver is to link users as close to the content as possible. The Horizon Link Resolver is provided through an ASP hosted model. By being an ASP solution, there are no servers or software to purchase, maintain and install, and there is no knowledgebase to populate.

  • Horizon Media Scheduling—simplifies the process of scheduling meeting rooms, media equipment, computer terminals, and other special library resources. Users can request a reservation online and receive email confirmations.

  • Horizon Offline Circulation—enables checkout and check-in procedures to be performed on a PC if the main system is unavailable. Horizon Offline Circulation can also be used to automate the operation of a bookmobile.

  • Horizon Remote Patron Authentication—enables you to authenticate remote users against your user list before providing them with access to restricted resources. Horizon Remote Patron Authentication allows you to limit use of your services to your users alone, ensuring that you can uphold the terms of your licensing agreements with subscription services. For more information, see: Certifying Internet Database Providers with Remote Patron Authentication

  • Horizon Reserve Bookroom—lets you set up item records, instructor records, and course records. You reserve items for a specific instructor and course. After you set up these records, you can place items on reserve and withdraw items from reserve. While an item is in reserve, you can determine the loan period and other circulation privileges for the item. When an item goes off reserve, you can archive the item record or both the item record and the bib record. These archived records will be available if you need to place the item on reserve again. You can reserve an item to be used immediately (Reserve Bookroom), or to be used in the future (Advanced Booking).

  • Horizon Telephone Messaging—enables users to retrieve and update their circulation information using a touch-tone phone, relieving staff from calls about item due dates, renewals, or items on hold. Horizon Telephone Messaging also provides automatic outbound messaging to users about overdue and on-hold items.
