Dynix Announces Strategic Partnership with Altarama
Partnership Adds Altarama's RefTrackerTM as Reference Module for Horizon 7.3

PROVO, Utah, and SYDNEY, Australia—January 6, 2004—Dynix, the world's leading provider of automation technologies, solutions, and services for libraries, announced today a strategic partnership with Altarama Systems and Services (Sydney, Australia) that will make Altarama's market-leading reference management system RefTrackerTM available to Dynix ILS and Horizon customers.

With the addition of RefTrackerTM to the company's mix of Horizon Information Portal, Horizon Consolidated Searching, Horizon Remote Patron Authentication, and an existing integration with Tutor.com's Virtual Reference ToolKit, Dynix clearly leads the marketplace in providing advanced functionality to reference librarians.

Through this partnership, Dynix will now offer an online reference solution to libraries by adding a direct link to RefTrackerTM through Horizon Information Portal, giving librarians the ability to ask and answer questions in a more timely manner. Dynix and Altarama will also work together for future development initiatives.

With RefTrackerTM, Dynix libraries will be able to manage all of the requests coming into their library, automatically routing them to the most appropriate staff member to ensure they are addressed quickly. Workflows in RefTrackerTM are flexible, designed to improve efficiency without hampering the individual work styles of reference librarians. RefTrackerTM prevents questions from being answered twice and ensures previous search strategies and developed answers can be shared through the use of a knowledge database that can be searched directly by clients for instant answers.

Most importantly, RefTrackerTM collects comprehensive statistics that support the management and justification of reference functions and resources. The product also provides a comprehensive Ask-a-Librarian interface that allows expansion of a library's reference service beyond its walls, providing service to remote users and branches that do not have on-site reference personnel.

RefTrackerTM enhances co-operation between staff in the reference operations of academic, public, special, state, and national libraries. A scaled pricing structure makes RefTrackerTM affordable for the smallest of libraries, but the product's functionality is sophisticated enough to meet the needs of the largest consortium.
